Tailored Sports wants to fill sponsorship gap

Sports marketing professional Cameron Nichol has launched a consultancy called Tailored Sports to navigate the sponsorship landscape for brands.

After more than a decade of roles at Sydney FC, MKTG and the GWS Giants, Nichol has identified a gap in the market serving brands new to the sports sector or seeking a directional change.

“A lot of brand want to get involved in sport, but they don’t have an advisor or consultant to do that,” he says.

“Many either struggle to understand the nuances of the sports market or lack a reliable, unbiased advisor to guide their sponsorship decisions.”

Nichol said that while some more established consultancies are industry leaders, they often lack the nuanced, first-hand experience he brings

He added that “Tailored Sports’ primary differentiator will be its hands-on, brand-focused service.”

Nichol said “I’ve had extensive first-hand experience" indicating that Tailored Sports’ primary differentiator will be its hands-on, brand-focused service.

"I’ve seen there’s a gap in the industry for genuine bespoke sponsorship consultancy with my level of experience and one who can say to a brand with an unbiased view that based on their objectives this is the sport for you,".

The new agency will support its clients through all stages of their journey, from the entry-level to those more experienced but wanting to recalibrate their sponsorship portfolios.

Its fee structure will be flexible, offering hourly rates, retainers or project-specific packages to clients.

Nichol says this is in response to major consultancies that typically have fixed pricing.

However, he also said, “I’m not here to shake up the industry. I’m here to fine-tune it from the brand side.”

“My consultancy is focused on enhancing, rather than disrupting, existing sponsorship approaches.”

Several potential clients are already in talks with the new entity, promising market validation. Nichol says the interest is coming from diverse brands who want to explore sponsorship to expand customer engagement and brand awareness.
