The NSW Department of Education has called for tenders from sponsors interested in supporting the first NSW School Sport Games which will be held mid-year.
The initiative will bring together students from the state’s public, catholic and independent schools to compete in multiple sport championships.
The games will be held from 2 to 6 June at Blacktown International Sports Park and feature 12 state championships across nine sports – including an inaugural ten-pin bowling competition for students with disability.
NSW Department of Education school sport unit leader, Peter Banks said, “Normally, different sports have their own championships at different times, but this year, we are bringing several of them together to create a real celebration of our students’ sporting achievements.”
“It is the first time we have done something like this, and we are hoping sponsors will help us build the event into something special for students and their families.”
The games will involve over 2,000 student athletes from 300 schools and be watched live by an estimated crowd of over 4,000.
Many events will be streamed online.
Manager of business engagement, arts, sport & initiatives, Sandra Copeman said sponsorship funding will enhance opportunities for participating students.
“Our sponsorships won’t fund the core event but they will allow us to enhance the games and provide a better experience for all involved.”
“If we secure sponsors, we could offset the cost of apparel for players and officials. We could also create a larger games hub with activities for students during their downtime.”
A key focus driving the sponsorship push is the need for financial support to subsidise costs for participating students.
The NSW School Sport Games is also looking for sponsors who can provide in-kind support, such as sporting equipment, transport, apparel and venues.
“Even if a sponsor wanted to provide vouchers to support the program, that would make a real difference.”
Sponsorship categories offered include major, associate and supporting sponsorships, with benefits ranging from branding on event materials to activation space in the game’s hub.
Live streaming will provide additional exposure for sponsors and advertisers, with significant reach expected through the department’s digital platforms.
Expressions of interest for sponsorship are now open, with further details available on BuyNSW and in the sponsorship prospectus.
