EnergyAustralia has renewed its major partnership with the Sydney Opera House for a further two years and plans to focus on diversity, equality and sustainability through its work with the venue.

EnergyAustralia managing director Catherine Tanna said the past two years of the partnership had been successful and the company wanted to build on the progress achieved so far.

“Something we share with our customers and our people is the belief that the combination of different backgrounds and ideas is a cause for attention and celebration” Tanna said.

The two-year partnership has helped the Opera House achieve carbon neutrality five years ahead of plan, and EnergyAustralia’s funding of an Opera House float at the Sydney Mardi Gras, encouraging 70 Opera House and EnergyAustralia staff to perform on a float for the first time.

EnergyAustralia will also become an event partner for Dance Rites, the Opera House’s annual event bringing First Nations dancers from around the word in November.

To continue its work in diversity, planned initiatives include funding a return Opera House float at next year’s Mardi Gras parade, a series of talks and workshops for EnergyAustralia and Opera House staff focusing on women in leadership, and supporting the LGBTIQ community of both organisations.

The Opera House also continues its discussions with several organisations in the search for a new principal partner to replace Samsung, after the tech giant decided not to renew with the organisation earlier this year.
